City of Beaumont Loses Entire Water Supply
Beaumont, Texas has lost both its main and secondary water supplies.
The city's main input pump is inoperable due to overflow from the Neches River, and its secondary supply in Hardin County is also offline. What water pressure remains in the system will be depleted within a few hours. The outage is indefinite while the city waits for the flood water to recede before it can inspect the damaged pumps.
Beaumont received over 45 inches of rain over the course of the storm. However, even though the rains have stopped, increased water levels in the Neches River are coming from upstream, which could be further complicated by historic releases from Dam B and Toledo Bend, the water from which should reach the area in a few days.
The city of Beaumont has a population of 118,000 people, according to the 2010 census.
