Could Shreveport, Louisiana Get A White Christmas?
☃️Has Shreveport Ever Had a White Christmas?
☃️What's the Christmas Forecast for This Year?
SHREVEPORT, LA – I am completely fine with cold weather this time of year. There’s just something special about chilly weather at Christmas. It sure would be special to see a little snow for Christmas, but that’s not very common around these parts.
As we see temperatures dipping into the 30's this week, I wondered if there is any chance we could have a white Christmas in north Louisiana. The answer to that is no.
Craig Ross with the Shreveport office of the National Weather Service tells us historical data shows we have only 1 white Christmas on record. That happened in 1929 when our area got about a foot of snow during the week prior to Christmas. On Christmas, we still had about an inch of snow on the ground way back in that day.
He tells us there was also a trace of snow falling in the area on Christmas evening in 2002.
The National Weather Service Climatological data shows we have had a trace of snow or sleet on a couple of other occasions in the Shreveport Bossier area:

But none of this winter precipitation stuck on the ground at all.
On average, Shreveport gets about 1 inch of snow per year.
