A big concert coming up this weekend aims to benefit several local non-profit organizations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting its fourth annual Christmas Concert, and this year the church has teamed up with its new volunteer service initiative JustServe.org.

To suit the charity aspect of the event, attendees are asked to donate items to the following organizations in lieu of an admission cost:

Azalea Estates Assisted Living
CASA - Volunteers for Youth Justice
Christian Service
Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana
Goodwill Industries
Hope Connections
Martin Luther King Health Center
Providence House
Step Forward
United Way
Volunteers of America

Items needed are canned foods -- especially protein-based items -- books for grades K-3, clothing for children and adults, toys or gift cards for kids up to age 18, disposable razors, spray deodorant, liquid laundry detergent or gently-used towels.

The concert is Saturday, December 5, at 7 p.m. at the church. It'll feature performances by local school choirs, community performers and talented soloists.

Last year's concert was attended by more than 750 people, leaving standing room only. The church says it has planned for a large attendance this year and guarantees that everyone who comes will find a comfortable seat waiting.
