A Shreveport man faces charges in connection with a Monday night traffic mishap that left a young boy seriously hurt. Police say a six-year-old boy was hurt just before 8:15 last evening when he was struck by an SUV at Lakeshore Drive and Alabama Avenue. But they say the driver had left the scene by the time officers got there. A short time later, however, 23-year-old Donald Johnson, Jr, surrendered at the police station -- telling officers that he had left the scene because he was afraid of what he called a "hostile" crowd that had begun to form when he got out to check on the boy. Police say Johnson also admitted to them that he had been drinking prior to the incident. He was then booked on one count each of DWI and negligent injury.
