Louisiana's own "Super Chef" John Folse reached another major achievement in his illustrious culinary career Thursday, when he - with a lot of local assistance - set a new Guinness Book of World's Records mark by cooking the largest pot of gumbo in history!

As part of the city's Walk-On's Independence Bowl festivities, Folse and crew, starting at 3:30 in the morning, whipped up a mix that weighed in at 6,800 pounds, breaking the old Guinness record of 5,800.

In addition to Folse and his team of cooks, numerous celebrities and politicians were on hand to be part of the effort. From ktbs.com:

"Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says, he's thankful for Folse and Walk-On's for making this possible.

"They stepped up to the plate as a sponsor, a major sponsor of the Independence Bowl for multiple years and to do something a little special by breaking a world record here and being in The Guinness Book of World Records is kind of special here in Louisiana especially here in Shreveport," said Nungesser."

Monies raised from the sale of the gumbo a large crowd, including more than 27,000 game attendees, went to benefit the Fisher House Foundation.
