Shreveport City Marshal Charlie Caldwell Jr. is presumed drowned in Florida after a tragic accident last night.

The 55-year-old Caldwell apparently fell overboard from a boat while on vacation near Destin, Florida.

The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed his disappearance. Crews are continuing to search for Caldwell. He fell from a boat about 100 yards off Marler Bayou.

Caldwell has been Shreveport City Marshal since May 2008.

Caldwell was proud of his efforts in our schools. He recently posted this message:
"I have achieved and maintained a positive presence in our schools and in community involvement and will continue to support the importance of education."

Caldwell has been in law enforcement for more than 25 years. He spent five years with the Caddo Sheriff’s Office. He then took a job as a deputy in the Shreveport City Marshal Office before being elected as City Marshal.Caldwell is the father of 4 children. He has also served as a member of the 100 Men of Shreveport and the Highland Outreach Ministries.

Caldwell has received several awards during his years of service including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award recognizing his services to Shreveport and Bossier. He was also honored with the 2009 Harry Blake Civil Rights Award.
