Mayor Chandler Reflects on First-Term Progress, Eyes Bossier City's Bright Future

As Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler wraps up his first term, he’s not just checking off promises kept, he’s laying the groundwork for what comes next. From filling key leadership vacancies to championing cleaner streets and stronger public safety, Chandler’s administration has focused on real, measurable progress for Bossier City.

Raising the Bar for Public Service

When Chandler took office in 2021, one of his first orders of business was to stabilize city leadership, including hiring a qualified City Engineer, a position that had gone unfilled. That move, alongside strategic investments in public safety, has helped restore structure and effectiveness across multiple departments. Bossier City’s police force, now at 97% staffing, stands as a point of pride for a city long known for its commitment to safety.

Chandler also helped push through term limits, a move he supported during his campaign before ever winning office, and gave overdue raises to city employees, reinforcing his belief in running government with business-minded efficiency and employee respect.

A Cleaner, More Compassionate City

One of the Mayor’s biggest hurdles has been balancing budget-conscious policies with quality-of-life initiatives. Yet his administration helped Bossier City Animal Services earn its no-kill designation, a major milestone born from collaboration with staff and community partners. City-wide cleanup efforts have also been ongoing, with Chandler treating cleanliness not as a seasonal campaign but a daily mission.

“None of us, including me, ever do great things,” Chandler wrote, quoting Mother Teresa. “But we can all do small things, with great love.” That spirit of partnership continues to guide his work.

Looking Ahead: Blight to Bright and Business Growth

As Chandler prepares for a second term, his focus shifts toward revitalization, both in appearance and economic activity. His “Blight to Bright” plan aims to amplify cleanup efforts with new investments in Public Works and contracted services. On the economic side, Chandler is pushing for a pro-growth environment that supports small businesses, revitalizes abandoned commercial properties, and helps breathe new life into key hubs like Pierre Bossier Mall and the Boardwalk.

Not every challenge has a quick fix, but Chandler's mix of vision and follow-through has earned him community trust as he charts the next chapter for Bossier City.
