Chancellor at LSU Health Shreveport Under Investigation
According to a new report from the Advocate in Baton Rouge, LSU Health Shreveport medical school chancellor Dr. G.E. Ghali is facing allegations of sexual discrimination & misconduct and is currently under investigation from the school system. The article alleges that the LSU Board of Supervisors was made aware of the allegations and received a report on the situation within the past two weeks. The allegations came to light during a routine evaluation of Ghali's performance as his contract is reportedly getting ready to expire.
According to LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard, concerns about Ghali were raised during a routine '360 evaluation' of a number of campus leaders. The concerns and allegations prompted an ongoing review and deeper investigation. At this time, no details about the alleged incidents have been publicly divulged. However, sources told the Advocate 4 nurses reported specific incidents.
KEEL News reached out to Dr. Ghali for a response to the report. While he didn't respond directly to KEEL's request, he did issue the following statement to all media outlets:
I strongly deny the limited reference in the report to sexism and welcome a thorough investigation. The report recognizes my role in bringing financial stability to the institution and acknowledges my commitment to diversity and inclusion. The report further notes the diverse and talented leadership team that has been assembled as well as my leadership in “righting the ship” at LSU Health Shreveport.
Sexual harassment, discrimination and misconduct allegations are a focal point at the moment in the LSU system as several reports have come out recently alleging coverups and mishandling of misconduct allegations. The Husch Blackwell law firm released a report on March 5th detailing how LSU mishandled several misconduct cases and offered 18 suggestions on how the system can better handle these kinds of incidents.
