Caddo Superintendent: Poor Students Are ‘Hostages (of Poverty)’ [VIDEO]
Caddo Parish Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lamar Goree talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the just released performance scores for schools across the state, including his district's score of "C".
Dr. Goree told KEEL listeners that Caddo schools face a number of challenges unique to districts with so many students coming from impoverished backgrounds, saying, "(The students) are hostages (to poverty). We are the best that they have." Goree also said that, in schools with failing grades, he will not let those schools or teachers be dfined by a letter grade alone, but also by the effort and improvement of both students and staff.
