The State Highway 154 bridge over Lake Bistineau in Bossier Parish will soon be known as the Officer Thomas LaValley Memorial Bridge. A ceremony to dedicate the bridge in Officer LaValley's honor will be held October 22nd. Representative Dodie Horton introduced legislation earlier this year to have the bridge renamed; Governor John Bel Edwards quickly signed it into law.

LaValley was killed in the line of duty August 5th 2015 while responding to a suspicious activity call. Grover Cannon, the man accused of committing the murder, is expected to go on trial for the shooting in February.
