Officials with the Sligo water system have confirmed that a water test found a brain eating amoeba in the water. This system serves a part of south Bossier.

This impacts residents along Sligo Road from from Highway 71 to Red Chute Bayou. This includes Lucky Estates, the Orchard, and Plantation Acres.

The amoeba was found during a routine test done by the state Department of Health last week. Local officials were notified of the positive test on Friday. The Shreveport Times reports Sligo had purchased the water that tested positive from Bossier City. Sligo has disconnected from Bossier City water and is now using well water to supply the residents.

System managers did start a chlorine flush and this chlorine burn will continue over the next two months. No boil order has been issued.

The CDC says you can not get ill from drinking the water. But you can get sick if you get the water up your nose.
