Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington wants to share his Christmas message with local residents.

CHRISTMAS IN AMERICA – A CELEBRATION OF HOPE

As we celebrate Christmas, we are reminded of the hope that we have in the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s the story from the 2nd chapter of the book of Luke in the Bible that we may have learned in church or from our parents.

I recently wrote a commentary about the origin of Thanksgiving in our country and how important it is to remember our Christian heritage. I encourage us to also take time this Christmas to focus on the real meaning of the holiday. Now is not the time to surrender your morals. We need to uphold the principles of the Christian nation in which we live.

In Louisiana, we were one of the first states to make Christmas a legal holiday back in 1838. Now, some 175 years later, we can continue to uphold the traditions of the Christmas season. This is a time of wonder and joy, of generosity and peace. It’s a time that brings families and friends together. We show our love to others in giving of gifts and helping those less fortunate. We encourage those in despair. We pray for our military men and women who are serving around the world away from their families during the Christmas season. We also pray for the safety of our fellow law enforcement officers here and around the country. And we wish all a joyous Christmas season and blessed New Year.

As a Christian nation, we are powerful because of God’s blessings on our country…because of men and women who fought for our religious freedom and those who stand with Godly values and moral character.
