The Bossier Chamber of Commerce recognizes how important the military and first responders are to this community. So each year, it hands out its annual Patriot Awards to deserving individuals. That's coming around again Wednesday, September 11th.

The event's speaker is LSU Athletic Training Program Director and Associate Professor Ray Castle. He was standing near the finish line at the Boston Marathon with his colleague Larry Venis, an athletic trainer from Boston University, when the first of two bombs exploded about 50 meters away. He'll share his experience and recognize the courageous men and women who serve as first responders in our community.

The Patriot Awards ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m. Everything's going on at the Bossier Civic Center, and you can buy tickets for $35 each.

Every day, men and women in our area put their lives before others in the line of duty. The Bossier Chamber asks that we all do our part to honor Bossier Parish military personnel, law enforcement and fire/EMS teams who show up to serve our community day in and day out.
