Qualifying for the Shreveport Mayoral election is July 18th-20th for the November 6th General Election. Several candidates have announced they want the job. And now another candidate is jumping in the race.

Caddo Parish Commissioner Steven Jackson says he's running. He will make a formal announcement during a fundraiser Thursday night at Proud Mary's in the Red River District. This brings the field of candidates to nine. But local political watchdog, Scott Hughes tells us he thinks only five of them have a realistic chance of making the runoff.

We talked with him about the race and how the Jackson candidacy will change the landscape.

Experts tell us the key issues in the race will be crime and economic development. Most of the candidates say a big part of the answer to our crime problem is jobs and the next mayor needs to do everything possible to bring in more jobs.
