American Red Cross Training Volunteers for Anticipated Disaster Needs
As local officials continue to monitor weather conditions, the American Red Cross is ready to step in and help during any emergency.
If you'd like to be part of that effort, the local chapter is training volunteers Sunday, May 31, from 2-6PM and Tuesday, June 2, from 9AM-1PM. Training in the fundamentals of sheltering will be held at the office at 805 Brook Hollow Drive in Shreveport.
"Volunteers are always moving, changing jobs, having kids - the need for new volunteers is constant," said Red Cross Executive Director Michelle Davison in a news release. "We need neighbors who are willing to help and learn how to provide that assistance now."
Those who would like to attend the training need to register by contacting Maureen Gallagher at Maureen.Gallagher@redcross.org or calling (800) 229-8191, ext. 3130. Be sure to mention which training date you will be attending.
Volunteers provide a variety of services, like organizing shelters, serving food, distributing supplies and working with families separated during a disaster.
