Shreveport Police have charged a man with Aggravated Assault with a Vehicle following a weekend incident that left an officer with minor injuries.

On August 1, 2020, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to reports of an unresponsive male in a vehicle in the 700 block of Flournoy Lucas Road. Arriving officers made contact with a man who was initially unresponsive. After several attempts to get a response out of the man, backup was called in to assist, and remove his vehicle from the road.

Shreveport Fire Department responded to render aid. When the fire department arrived, the man apparently woke up, placed the vehicle in drive, and attempted to drive away. The officer entered the cab of the vehicle and attempted to disable the vehicle and stop the impaired man from hurting anyone. He was unable to stop the vehicle and the vehicle ran in to a utility pole. The officer suffered minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect, 50-year-old Thomas Wilson III of Shreveport, was charged with one count of Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle on a Peace Officer. Bond was set at $50,000.00. Wilson has prior arrests by Shreveport Police for DUI and Resisting an Officer.
