SHREVEPORT, LA - A former Shreveport Police Officer accused of killing a man during a chase outside an apartment complex is due in court today. Alexander Tyler is charged with negligent homicide in the death of Alonzo Bagley.

Officers were responding to a domestic violence call at the apartment back in February. Bagley jumped from a second floor balcony and fled. Officers gave chase.

State Police took over the investigation. Here is part of the information LSP released:

After a short foot pursuit, an officer “located Mr. Bagley as he rounded a building corner and fired one shot from his service weapon, which struck Mr. Bagley in the chest,” state police said. Bagley later was pronounced dead at a hospital, they said.

Tyler resigned from the police force back in March. At the time, Mayor Tom Arceneaux issued a brief statement.

"This decision was solely made by Mr. Tyler and his attorney. The City has followed all policies and procedures during this process."
