Odds are that if you won a substantial prize in any of Louisiana's many lottery games, you would probably be online trying to figure how to claim your winnings within seconds of the dropping of the final ball.

However, there are those occasions where someone might go to sleep before the drawing and not discover their good fortune until the next morning.

And I'm nearly certain, that on more than one occasion, someone has actually purchased a winning ticket to only discover they had somehow lost that ticket.

One can only assume the latter is the case of prizes as substantial as $90,000 could still be unclaimed 54 days after the drawing.

Let's rewind the clock to December 1, 2021 when Louisiana held its "Easy 5" drawing. A ticket sold at Tobacco Place on Martin Luther King Highway in Lake Charles, that would ultimately prove to be worth a whopping $90,000, yet, as of today, January 24, 2022, is still unclaimed.  The sad news is that if it's not produced and legally claimed by May 30, 2022, the ticket purchaser will have lost claim to the winnings.

According to the Louisiana Lottery's Unclaimed Prizes rules:

According to Lottery draw-style game rules, all winning tickets must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Once unclaimed prizes have surpassed their redemption periods, the money is transferred to the Lottery's unclaimed prize fund, which is returned to players in the form of increased payouts on scratch-off tickets, second-chance drawings and other player promotions.

That's got to be one of the toughest ironies in the history of irony.  To be lucky enough to win the lottery, yet unlucky enough to be able to keep up with the winning ticket.

And this isn't the only prize the Louisiana Lottery lists as still unclaimed.
