I know that attitudes in the state of Louisiana (and the entire United States, for that matter) have become more relaxed when it comes to legalization or decriminalization of marijuana.  That being said, the stash of drugs and paraphernalia found during the course of Hubert Wiltz's recent experience with law enforcement officials goes well beyond "personal use."

Wiltz, a 60-year old resident of St. Martinville was arrested late last week after throwing a "hand-rolled cigarette" on the ground in front of a police officer.  According to the report from the Daily Iberian, St. Martinsville Parish Sheriff's deputies originally pulled over the vehicle driven by Wiltz for an improper lane change.  When Hubert emerged from said vehicle, officers said he threw out the homemade smokable they later determined to be a cigar full of marijuana.

A search was conducted of the suspect's vehicle, that's when deputies found crack cocaine and approximately $900 in cash.  An official narcotics investigation was launched, and with Mr. Wiltz's consent, a search of his residence turned up an astonishing amount of illegal drugs.  According to the report, that search found: "marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, Hydrocodone, amphetamines, Vyvance, Ecstasy, Oxycodone, Carisoprodol, Tramadol, Promethazine, and drug paraphernalia, along with additional items used for the manufacture and distribution of illegal narcotics."

Mr. Wiltz is currently in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, charged on 26 counts related to the drugs and one count of improper lane usage.  No bond had been set at the time of this report.
