[UPDATE]  LSU Health Shreveport officials say Kiara Williams is doing better.  She's listed in fair condition today.  Her survival is being called nothing short of miraculous.

[ORIGINAL STORY]  A bizarre crash on I-49 leaves a local woman seriously injured. Late last night, 23-year-old Kiara Williams of Shreveport lost control of her Ford Explorer while swerving to avoid a mattress that was lying in the roadway just south of the West 70th Street onramp. Her SUV went over a concrete barrier, plunging some 60 feet to the ground below. The vehicle was severely crushed, and was found near Dillman Avenue at West 79th Street.

Firefighters got her out of the wrecked vehicle and she was taken to LSU Health Shreveport, where hospital officials say she's listed in serious condition. A sample of Williams' blood has been sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab fo analysis, but police don't suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. They're now trying to figure out where the mattress came from.
