U.S. News & World Report gave the nod to 85 Louisiana Schools for academic achievement in its annual list of best high schools in the country.

Louisiana's top-ranked public schools according to the group are: Thomas Jefferson High School in Gretna; Charter Science Academy in New Orleans; and New Orleans Charter Science & Mathematics High in New Orleans.

In the group's full ranking of national high schools, 82 Louisiana high schools earned a bronze medal and three Louisiana high schools earned a silver medal.

This report from U.S. News & World Report utilizes different criteria than Louisiana Department of Education's annual report. Specifically, it factors in the percentage of economically disadvantaged students who tend to score lower and whether these students, and African-American and Hispanic-American students, perform above average.
