Since coming to Caddo, Superintendent Gerald Dawkins has made it clear that he's not a big fan of charter schools.  So, it should come as no surprise that he's not a big fan of Governor Jindal's education agenda which, among other things, proposes more vouchers for charters, privates, and on-line programs.  Dr. Dawkins has issued the following statement:

“Caddo is not surprised.  Gov. Jindal’s plan was expected.  He has been a long-time advocate of charters and private school formats.

However, we sincerely believe that our public schools provide the best educational opportunities for all students and will continue to be competitive.

We respect parents’ right to choose.  We advise that they review the performance records, potential of new programs of choice and make the decisions in the best interest of students.  We encourage them to hold all educators, in the setting of choice, to the highest of standards and to support the school/staff.  Parental involvement is imperative to the success of students in any situation.

Public school doors will remain open where the goal has been and always will be to develop the maximum potentials in all students, regardless of race, creed, color or economics.

Caddo looks forward to conferring with the LDOE regarding the next steps.”
