UPDATED:  Lakeia Rawls, the victim in Friday's shooting in the 3800 block of Conway Street, died of her woulnd this morning at LSU Hospital in Shreveport.  Charges against Danny Battle will be upgraded from attempted manslaughter to second-degree murder, along with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Call Out To All “Miracle Babies”

CHRISTUS Schumpert is once again calling all “Miracle Babies,” who have overcome the odds of prematurity and developmental problems in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the annual NICU Christmas Reunion.   The event will be Sunday, December 11 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Schumpert cafeteria.

New York Hospital Using Palm Scans for Patient Check-Ins

Checking in at New York University’s Langone Medical Center now has a high-tech twist. Instead of paperwork, the hospital is using a palm-scanner to trace the unique vein patterns in patients’ hands.

Made by Fujitsu, the scanners use near-infrared waves to take an image of the veins in a person’s palm. As long as the imaging has been done on a patient before, software can then match these pictures against those already on file. Set-up for new patients takes under a minute, and doesn’t require the person to be conscious.
