Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Northwest Louisiana headed east this morning to assist storm victims in Monroe and West Monroe. That area was hardest-hit by yesterday's strong storm system that moved through the state.

March 2-8 marks National Severe Weather Preparedness Week. During this time, the Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross encourages individuals and families to make sure that they are prepared for the severe weather and tornadoes that often affect our communities in the spring.
The American Red Cross is doing some special training this weekend. The focus is on Shelter Operations, which are essential for northwest Louisiana in the event of disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and fires.
