How would you like to buy a beer while watching a movie at Tinseltown or the Boardwalk?

The Louisiana Senate committee approved the measure, Senate Bill 654, this week, leaving some, including Shreveport Senator Greg Tarver, frustrated.

Tarver brought up concerns that the bill would introduce the risk of incidents due to drunkenness. Tarver told his colleagues:

You take your family out to the movies … someone can drink too much and act like a nut with your family there.

Tarver tried, but failed to kill the bill in committee. It's now headed to the Senate floor.

If passed, the bill would require theaters to segregate their alcohol counter from a normal concession stand.

SB 654 is sponsored by State Senator J.P. Morrell of New Orleans. Only five movie theaters in Louisiana currently sell beer.
