The fall Shreveport Farmers' Market opens for business this weekend. Market Manager Noma Fowler-Sandlin says she's not sure what farmers have been planting this year, but she gives us a "taste" of what we can expect.

"If it's like every other year, we're going to have a lot of winter squash, a lot of greens, and sweet potatoes from this part of the world are just magnificent," Fowler-Sandlin says. "We'll also have the regular baked goods and things like that. We've got plenty of meat, and cheese and milk."

Something new this year is a vendor who sells what Fowler-Sandlin calls "natural home decor." It's things to decorate with for the fall season. "Some corn stalks, some pumpkins, some hay bales, things like that that he uses," she says. "Those will be available for those people who haven't decorated for Halloween the first week and then Thanksgiving the rest of the time."

While you're doing your shopping, you can enjoy some live music. Several performers are already on the line-up, and Fowler-Sandlin is still picking and choosing who will entertain during the rest of the market's run.

The Fall Market is open from 8 a.m. until noon every Saturday from this week through November 23rd. Visit the Shreveport Farmers Market website to find out more.
