Every year, approximately 1.5 million students from across the country compete for the National Merit Scholarship. Each one of those students participates in a PSAT/NMSQT test, and the top 50,000 scorers go on to compete for a place in the semi-finals.

There are currently about 16,000 high-school students now in the semi-finals, and seven Caddo Parish students representing three high schools are now Semi-Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship.

According to Caddo Parish Schools:

These gifted high school seniors hail from Caddo Magnet High School, Captain Shreve High School and C.E. Byrd High School and encompass the very best in student achievement.

Caddo Parish’s Semifinalists encompass a cross section of students with varied activities including athletics, nonprofit work and numerous club affiliations. The students will now advance in the competition, making them eligible for approximately 7,600 scholarships valued at nearly $33 million.
