The Baltimore Ravens released running back Ray Rice today (Monday) after a graphic video of him punching his former fiancée - now his wife - in a hotel elevator in Atlantic City in February became public. The NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, which had been criticized for its seemingly lenient two game suspension of Rice, has now suspended him indefinitely.

The Ravens, who had not previously disciplined Rice, announced the player's release via their Twitter account.

The decisions came just hours after the release of the video. It showed Rice punching Janay Palmer in the face, knocking her unconscious. A previous video had shown him dragging her by the hair from the elevator.
