It took the assistance of the Shreveport police K-9 unit, but an alleged suspect has been arrested for snatching a 78-year-old woman's purse.

Officers converged on the home of the victim in the 7100 block of Brandtway Street around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.  The victim was able to give police a description of the man who had just snatched her purse.  Witnesses say a suspect, matching that description, was spotted in a large open field, next to a drainage ditch, around Mansfield Road and West 70th Street throwing items on the ground.  Then, moments later he was seen going into near-by Sutherland's Lumber, where he was confronted and arrested.

Authorities recovered the victim's purse from a ditch just behind Sutherlands.  The suspect, identified as 18 year old Reginald Williams of the 5200 block of Monkhouse Drive in west Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of purse snatching.

His bond is pending.
