A teenager convicted of manslaughter in the death of a fellow student in a Natchitoches school incident has been sentenced to two years in a secure training academy.

18-year-old Timmy Ray Robinson was sentenced for the August 2014 death of 18-year-old JohnQuaries Smith. In October, Robinson pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was 16 at the time of the incident but was tried as an adult.

Robinson was sentenced to two years of imprisonment at the Academy of Training Skills in St. Landry Parish, and ordered to pay $10,000 to Smith's family.

Natchitoches Parish District Attorney Van Kyzar says Robinson had punched Smith in the face with enough force to cause him to fall backward, striking his head on the concrete floor. Smith was taken to a hospital and died the next day of head injuries.
