During the month of April, Louisiana State Police Troop L, in conjunction with numerous local emergency response agencies, will be participating in “Consequences of Impact”, a mock fatality crash involving impaired driving.  The two mock crashes scheduled for April will be conducted at Northlake Christian School in Covington and St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond.

Students involved will act out a fatal crash scene scenario in front of their peers, allowing the student body to see first-hand the devastating consequences of impaired and distracted driving.  Parents of the student actors will also be playing parts in these scenarios.  The mock crashes will emphasize the dangers and consequences associated with impaired and distracted driving, the importance of proper seatbelt use, and the emotional suffering families endure when a fatal crash occurs in reality.

Numerous state and local agencies will be providing their expertise to ensure the safety of everyone involved.  Participants include the Interim LSU Public Hospital Level 1 Trauma Center, Lakeview Regional Medical Center, Louisiana State Police, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Tammany Fire District 12, Hammond and Natalbany Fire Departments, Acadian Ambulance, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Offices, and Gene’s and Keith’s Towing Services.  Personnel from each agency will be available to answer all of the students’ questions at the conclusion of the event.

Proactive educational initiatives such as “Consequences of Impact”, strive to reduce the number of underage DWI’s and serious injury and fatal crashes while promoting the importance of sound decision making and behavior.
