Michael Bay's speech at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) didn't go quite as the world-famous director planned when he walked off the stage abruptly. But was it a hoax?

During a live pitch for Samsung's Ultra HDTV sets Monday (Jan.6), Bay began to stumble over his words, citing teleprompter issues. The Samsung spokesperson with him on stage attempted to help the director get back on track, but to no avail.

"I'm sorry," said Bay as he left the stage.

Bay later blogged about his CES experience, chalking it up to plain old poor public speaking ability.

"Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES," Bay wrote. "I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off. I guess live shows aren’t my thing."

Bay's reference in the note to the exact Samsung TV he was brought on stage at CES to talk up has led some to question if the "meltdown" was indeed real or a staged publicity stunt. Whatever the case, it was still very awkward.
