Some of the state’s most skilled orators will showcase their talent this Friday and Saturday at the second annual Louisiana High School League Fall Classic Debate and Speech tournament at Green Oaks High School.

The competition is an official qualifying event for the state tournament to be held in the spring. Contestants from 13 schools – inside and outside of Caddo Parish – will compete in a variety of categories. The debate categories are: Lincoln-Douglas; Public Forum and Cross-examination. The speech categories include dramatic, oral, and duet acting, among others.

Friday’s competition begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m., with Saturday’s events running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mayor Cedric Glover is the main sponsor for the two-day tournament and is eager to see some of the area’s best students in action.

``This is a wonderfully enriching program for these students and I encourage the community to get behind them and support this competition,’’ Mayor Glover said.
