The LSU-S Debate team capped off a record breaking season by winning the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament April 13-15 at Sam Houston State University.

"We worked really hard on fundamentals, focusing and not letting up on the competition," said director of debate, Trey Gibson.  "They did it!  I'm so proud of them!  In light of all that is happening around us, these students evidence what LSUS is really all about!"

The team recorded a total of 118 wins to 58 losses throughout the tournament, winning two division titles on the way to the tournament championship.  Chelsea Anthony and Kyle Bickham won the Team Division National Championship title on a 2-1 decision against a Sam Houston team.  John Mazur earned the National Championship Speaker title in the Professional Division.

The National Championship Tournament titles follow a season where the LSU-S squad eclipsed the previous record for total points earned in a season by nearly 40 points.  This is the fourth Season Ranking National Championship title in a row for the LSUS team and the third National Tournament Championship in the last decade.
