Lawmakers did away with the tax break weekend during the legislative session earlier this year. But if you Google "sales tax holiday in Louisiana", it will show up as August 3-4 of this year. But it's not happening. You will not get a tax break on items you buy to send your children back to school.

Louisiana has had an annual "Back To School" sales tax holiday since 2007. This will be the first year we will not get that break. So you will pay the full 4.45 sales tax on all items your purchase for getting ready for the new school year.

Louisiana's loss could be Texas' gain. The Lone Star State is having a "back to school" sales tax weekend on August 10-12. Texas waives the state sales tax on most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100. Texas residents will also be able to take the tax exemption for items sold online.
