Caddo sheriff's detectives have arrested a Shreveport woman for using bogus checks to buy a car and other items.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator says in a news release that 34-year-old Kirstin O'Neal purchased a car for just over $5,100 from a local dealership in December, but her check was returned as counterfeit.

Sheriff's Detective Yomeka Evans discovered during her investigation that between December 17 and January 10, O'Neal passed over 40 fraudulent checks as payment for goods. Those losses totaled an additional $3,700.

Deputies located O'Neal and the stolen vehicle at Hillside Apartments. The car was returned to the dealership and O'Neal was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on four counts of forgery and one of felony theft.
