Isaac Sends Shreveporters After Sandbags
Shreveport motorists jammed Mansfield Road Thursday in a mad dash to get sandbags ahead of Isaac's stormy floods.
Several hundred drivers have been through the city's public works facility since Wednesday morning, according to city sanitation workers who were shoveling and bagging as fast as they could. "I'm getting 25 bags now, if I need more I'll come back," said a man who was in his SUV patiently waiting. He told KEEL News he was getting the bags for his place of employment, which is in a low lying area.
City worker Gordon Williams said he has worked with the city for 12 years and the last time he remembers dolling out the sandbags was two years ago.
The public works facility is located on Claiborne Avenue, but motorists wanting sandbags were re-routed around the back of the plant off Mansfield Road.
