A Shreveport teen sits behind bars this afternoon charged with burglarizing a Highland business while detectives are busy tracking down his accomplice.

At approximately 2:06 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to an alarm call at the Highland Park and Shop in the 500 block of Stoner Avenue.  Upon arrival, officers discovered that a front window of the business had been broken out.  Evidence at the scene indicated the suspects apparently used a newspaper vending machine to climb through the window and enter the building.  Moments later, responding officers located a male suspect, identified as 18 year old Jakarris Harper of the 1400 block of Highland Avenue in Shreveport, just blocks away from the scene of the crime.  Based on information gathered during their interview with Harris, he was arrested for resisting an officer and subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

Detectives were notified and after conducting a thorough investigation have now charged Harper with one count of simple burglary.  During the course of their inquiry, investigators learned another suspect was with Harper during the burglary. Detectives have tentatively identified that suspect and are working at this time to obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives will be following up on this arrest to determine if Harper is responsible for other similar crimes.  Anyone with any information regarding this suspect or any other burglaries is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6985 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
