We didn't know it until today, but some Haughton families apparently got a nice Christmas Eve gift, after a man who swindled nearly $3,000 from youth baseball league was jailed in Bossier Parish.

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington says Robert Martin, III, who's now 26, was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on December 24 after being transported here from McLean County, Illinois, where he had been serving time on another charge.

He was booked here for felony theft for defrauding parents, youth and sponsors by stealing $2,897 from the Haughton Dixie Baseball League, where he tried to work as a coach in last spring's season. Bossier detectives had a warrant for his arrest in early April, but Martin skipped town.

Martin also faces two failure to appear charges for driving under suspension and speeding, plus a state probation violation charge and a warrant out of Caddo County, Oklahoma, for taking and receiving a stolen credit/debit card.
