With the election season starting to heat up here at home, Gov. John Bel Edwards Thursday said he would support Foster Campbell for the US Senate and encouraged the veteran Public Service Commissioner to run.

"I know he is considering running, and I'm encouraging him to run," Edwards said. "He's been a dedicated public servant and I think he'd make a great senator."

Edwards' public support of Campbell came on the same day New Orleans attorney Caroline Fayard became the first Democrat to officially enter the race.

Campbell, from Elm Grove, was on 710 KEEL Friday morning with Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty and told the morning show duo that he'll make an announcement "in the next two weeks." But he added that it's "90%" that he' enter the race for the Senate seat currently occupied by Republican David Vitter.
