SHREVEPORT, LA - 2023 was a devastating year for northwest Louisiana with massive storms in June that wiped out hundreds of trees and causing thousands and thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Keep Bossier Beautiful is working to replenish the trees we lost during the storms.
They are hosting a couple of events to get more trees growing.

Help Plant Trees

Arbor Day – Saturday, January 20th
9:30 until noon
Keep Bossier Beautiful will plant 50 trees along Whispering Pines in the Tall Timbers neighborhood in Haughton.
They want 8 teams of volunteers to step up to help with this event. Each team should have five to six members ready to plant trees.

How to Get a Free Tree

Keep Bossier Beautiful will also be giving out free trees to help "replenish the tree canopy in Bossier Parish."

Storms, droughts, and new construction have taken a toll on many of the older trees in several Bossier City neighborhoods.

The tree giveaway is being held on Friday, January 26 beginning at 9am. Residents can select from 7 species of trees provided. Trees will be 4-5 feet tall in 5-gallon containers. Each vehicle will only be allowed to pick up one tree.

What Varieties Are Being Given Out?

Shumard Oak, Pin Oak, Green Ash, White Oak, Bald Cypress, Crepe Myrtle and Water Oak.

This event is being held at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. You must enter from Arthur Teague Parkway and follow the pickup process to get your tree.

You are urged to plant trees as soon as possible in a hole at least 24” wide x 12” deep and water the tree immediately.
