A former rugby coach suspected of having a sexual relationship with a student pleads guilty.

55-year-old Samuel Stephen Brock pled guilty in Caddo District Court to one felony count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Brock is sentenced to six years with all but 18 months suspended. He was placed on three years of supervised probation, to commence with his release after serving 18 months.

Brock, who coached at several local schools and who was booked into jail in late November 2017, will be restricted from being present at schools while on probation. He must register as a sex offender for 15 years upon his release and must comply with all registration restrictions. If his probation is revoked, he must serve the remainder of his original six-year sentence. Finally, he was fined $500 plus court costs.

Brock also pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student as a result of sexual intercourse with a local high school student over the age of 17 while he was a coach. For this, Brock received a six-month sentence in the parish jail, concurrent with the felony plea.

The plea arrangement, arranged in cooperation with the victim's family, avoided the need for the victim to testify at a jury trial.
