Dr. Ghali Says State Budget Is Demoralizing and Embarrassing
Concern across the state about cuts to health care. Some say the budget passed by the House could shutter the hospitals. Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport and Dean of the School of Medicine Dr. G.E. Ghali tells KEEL News this budget is a disappointment and is demoralizing.
Dr. Ghali tells KEEL News "its an embarrassment when higher education and health care are not fully supported."
Dr. Ghali says something has to change. He says it is unacceptable to have a budget that leaves the safety net hospitals fighting to stay in business.
He says this sends a terrible message to the entire nation and it's a shame we have to go through this every year.
Dr. Ghali also talks about TOPS and we asked him if health care is taking a back seat to the college tuition program.
Governor John Bel Edwards says he won't sign this budget if it makes its way to his desk.
