First United Methodist Church at the head of Texas Street in Shreveport has announced it will install a new steeple to replace the one that tumbled to the ground in a October, 2009 storm.

The new 45,000+ pound steeple will be about 23 feet shorter that the most recent steeple, including the cross.

Dr. Pat Day announced his intentions to his congregation this past Sunday, this morning he told the media.

The new steeple is currently being constructed in Kentucky and will be brought to Shreveport on four flatbed trailers around the third week of May.

Construction gets underway in about a week to remove the pedestal that currently sits atop the church, since a new pedestal will also be installed.
