Following seven applications of interest to fill the seat left vacant following the passing of two-time board president Lillian Priest, Dorothy Nell Warren Fisher became the newest member of the Caddo Parish School Board Fisher will serve out the remainder of Priest’s term, which ends Dec. 31.

During the interview process for the position, Fisher said her top priority was ensuring success for all children.

“I’ve been in this system all my life,” Fisher said. “I would like to see a change in the atmosphere and strength the parent, teacher, student relationship and to bring a little of the unexpected. So often we hear the negative, but I would like to see more of the positive feedback coming to our system.”

Fisher retired in 2007 from the district where she served as a paraprofessional for 32 years. She became interested in the vacancy as a concerned grandparent, but also as one who saw her own children succeed and flourish in the Caddo Schools.

Following the board’s vote, Fisher was sworn in by board attorney Reggie Abrams who administered the oath of office. Superintendent Lamar Goree said he is excited to begin working with Fisher.

“I thank all those who took the time to apply and undergo the interview process,” Goree said. “It speaks volumes for those seven persons who decided to take the time to express interest in being a part of our district. I look forward to working with Ms. Fisher to carry on the necessary work in the best interest of all of Caddo Parish Public Schools. She has made a great commitment to our community by agreeing to step up at this time and serve. We will never replace Lillian Priest, who gave so much to our district, but know we must continue her tireless work toward bettering the lives of our children.”
