Shreveport/Caddo Crime Stoppers has joined forces with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and Project Safe Neighborhood to launch a nationwide program here.  "Don't Lie for the Other Guy" was developed to raise public awareness that it is a serious crime to purchase a firearm for someone who cannot legally do so him/herself or for someone who does not want his or her name associated with the transaction.  The program is also designed to educate firearms dealers on how to better detect and deter potential straw purchases, as these transactions are often called.  Crim Stoppers Police Coordinator Jim Taliaferro says "Don't Lie for the Other Guy" posters will be distributed to all pawn shops in the Shreveport area.
