The possibility of rain may have kept some people away but it didn't stop hundreds of others from turning out for the 23rd Annual Cross Lake Floatilla to "Love the Lake Life."

Watercraft of all shapes and sizes converged on the south side of Cross Lake while land-lubbers gathered around the beautiful facilities of American Legion Post 14 on South Lakeshore Drive.  They all partied to the music of the Backbeat Boogie Band and AJ and the Two Tone Blues Band. Food vendors did a brisk business all day and I had the pleasure of, once again, being the emcee for the day's activities.

Highlights of those activities were a poker run to various venues around the lake, the decorated boat parade, and a 50-50 raffle.

The poker run was won by Hugh Knotts with a full house -- 7s over 10s.  Dan McGrew came in second with another full house -- 5s over 8s.  Ruddy Medlin placed third with an ace-high flush.

The decorated boat parade was won by Brad Tutunjian with an entry called The Red Raider.  Janet Pendleton came in second with Luau on the Lake.  Third place went to Rodger Boulanger's Redneck Yacht Club.  After receiving his $250 check, he handed it right back to the Post to use for future activities.

The 50-50 raffle was won by a woman who bought 6 tickets for $5 and then handed them right back to the seller saying, "If I win, keep the money."  Well, she won!

If I've mis-spelled any of the winners' names, I sincerely apologize.  That's the way they were given to me.

If you missed this year's floatilla, you missed a fun time on the lake.  But don't worry -- there'll be another one next year.

My thanks to American Legion Post 14 for hosting the event and for inviting me back to be the emcee again.
