Authorities arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting during what has been described as a botched drug deal in northwest Shreveport earlier this week.

At approximately 5:22 p.m. on January 23, 2012, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to Willis-Knighton Medical Center in the 2600 block of Greenwood Road relative to a shooting. Upon arrival, patrolmen found 26 year old Mahtdi Hollins there suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg. Hollins reported to officers that he had been shot by a known suspect during some type of dispute in the 3100 block of Poland Street and was subsequently transported to the hospital in a private automobile. Hollins’ injury is reported to be serious but not life-threatening.

Detectives responded and immediately began their investigation. Based on information gathered as well as evidence recovered at the scene of the crime, investigators were able to develop 17 year old Davaeya Anderson as the suspect who shot Hollins. Detectives believe that Anderson and Hollins were involved in a drug transaction when Anderson produced a handgun and shot Hollins. The weapon believed to have been used in the crime has been seized as evidence.

Anderson was taken into custody without incident last night at his home in the 1900 block of Weinstock Street in Shreveport and subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of aggravated battery.
