The Bossier City Fire Department begins its annual school fire safety program Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Central Park Elementary.

Each year during the month of October, the department's Fire Prevention Bureau brings its fire prevention and safety program to Bossier elementary schools. The presentation includes a puppet show, video and appearances by Sparky the Fire Dog and Freddie the Fire Truck.

Throughout the month, fire prevention officers will put on this program for more than 7,000 children in elementary schools and child care facilities in Bossier City. It runs in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, which runs this year from October 5 through 11.

This year's Prevention Week focuses on the importance of smoke alarms, with the theme "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month."
