Arrest Made in Latest Shreveport Homicide

Shreveport Police Detectives have jailed a man following the murder of another last night.

On July 27, 2023, just after 9:45 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of Alston Street on reports of a shooting. Arriving officers located a 36-year-old man suffering from at least two gunshot injuries to the upper body. Shreveport Fire Medics transported the victim to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

Patrol officers quickly established a crime scene perimeter and notified Violent Crimes Detectives. Crime Scene investigators responded and secured all items of evidentiary value.

While detectives were on the way to the scene a man identifying himself as the shooter called into dispatch and was taken into custody a short time later by patrol officers and identified as Jeffrey J Smith (5-17-1989).

Smith was transported to the Shreveport Police Complex for interviews with investigators and later booked into the city jail on one count of Second-Degree Homicide. Through their investigation, detectives did learn that this homicide was related to an ongoing domestic incident.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office will release the decedents name at a later time.
